Les Frewin epitomises and embodies what the Ourimbah Magpies were built on. He was one of our greatest and most succesful players, being the five eight in the 1913 first grade premiership winning team, scoring the only try of that grand final to beat Erina 3 nil, he went on to win many more. He went on to play first grade for the Magpies well into his forties moving from five eight to lock and later into the front row, playing first grade with his oldest son. He was a hard working family man, a timber cutter raising 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls, with his 6 boys all playing first grade with the Ourimbah Magpies. Les passed away towards the end of the 1951 season suffering a heart attack whilst out in the bush logging timber. Les was still heavily involved in the Ourimbah Magpies right up until his death, being the first grade selector, and the 1951 first grade team went on to be crowned undefeated premiers in honour of Les Frewin. From 1913 to 1951 Les Frewin was the first and only person to be given the prestigious honour of life membership of the Ourimbah RLFC. In 2013 celebrating the centenary of the Ourimbah Wyoming Magpies, Les Frewin was inducted into the Ourimbah Wyoming RLFC Team of the Century. Les Frewin is a symbol of how hard work brings success, and it is only fitting that such an award be named after such a legend.
